Someone posted this question on a forum I visit. I started thinking of some of the things we do here on the River Rest that keeps trash out of the landfill.

The 3 R’s. REDUCE – REUSE – RECYCLE.

Our county has a pretty good recycle program. They take the usual; newspaper,plastics,aluminum,glass and cardboard. They also take used motor oil and car batteries. We utilize this program as much as we can. The little things add up.

White sugar vs raw sugar

I wanted to pass along this article. I was talking with a friend the other day on this very subject.  We have eliminated white sugar from our household. We now use raw sugar. It’s quite good. We also use other natural sweeteners like honey and Agave Nectar (low glycemic for those that cannot have real sugar). Some folks like to use Stevia.

I agree with the writer’s comments about sugar consumption. It’s totally out of hand. When I was growing up sodas were not served at the table with meals. Candy was not eaten on a daily basis.

Simple Living, I Cut My Hair

This is the first installment of the simple things I do to reduce my impact on Mother Earth

I cut my own hair. Yes sometimes looks like it, though it turns out fine a majority of the time. Think about it, how many times have you gotten a bad haircut? I know my hair better than anyone. I don’t have to wait for an appointment. It’s not rocket science. All you need is a comb & hair cutting shears. I save money on hair salon fees and the gas it takes to get there.

I no longer find comfort in eating foods prepared by a minimum wage employee using mass-produced, chemically grown foods from a corporate farm raised by minimum wage employees. Not only is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle an important component for simple living it is an important component for living lightly on the earth. It brings a sense of accomplishment and well-being, that with this simple concept we can lessen our impact on mother earth.
